The Drums beat your ‘Best Friend’

Mini UK tour coming up and Primavera too

It is not as if The Drums have been lacking in hype in recent months but with single ‘Best Friend’ due for release next week, what better time to give them a spin.

A place on the NME Awards Tour and the Phillip Hall award not to mention a press-garnering run at SXSW, things have been going well for the group. Before the summer really kicks in, they’ve also got a UK tour supporting Florence and her pesky Machine and then a sunshine jaunt to Barcelona to play the Primavera festival. It’s all go!

We like what we hear from The Drums, there is nothing startling about it. Light and melodic indie-pop with a sunshine surfs up appeal but that is not the sort of thing you can ever have too much of.

‘Best Friend’ is a great example of this. It has that 1980’s twangy indie guitar feel so it instantly feels as though you’ve known the track for a long time. Having this sense of familiarity about it is never a bad thing and should have you bopping along before you realise.

We’ve mentioned the big shows the band are playing because they are the ones they are plugging the most but if you dig deeper, they have a mini UK tour happening very soon.

All you Glasgow scenesters get a double chance to catch The Drum on Monday 29th of March. They will be performing an in-store at Avalance at 17:15 (or more likely after if it is consistent with every in-store we have been to) and then playing at the Classic Grand later that night.

Well…not if you read the Classic Grand website but that has nothing on that evening so maybe they just haven’t updated it. The Drums website had the news and then the band moves onto Manchester and London.

So, plenty of chances to catch the Drum if you like them.

And if you don’t like them, beat it.
