Neu! vinyl up for grabs and Primavera preview
Michael Rother and friends set for Saturday night in Barcelona
The time-table for the Primavera festival has been announced and in looking through the list of times and names, there are a few things which have definitely caught our eye. Sadly, we may be unable to go see Van Dyke Parks but that’s because there is something a lot more exciting happening elsewhere.
Michael Rother has teamed up with Steve Shelley and Aaron Mullan to bring a night of Neu! music. All we can hope is that there is going to be a lot of kraut-rock influenced sounds for their set because if there is, we’re going to have a great time.
That track dates back to 1975 but it could have came at any point since then. The influence that Neu! have had on music is pretty startling, especially since they are a band that many people won’t have heard of.
Perhaps it is just us but there appears to be a soaring optimism about the music of Neu! that really appeals. The building of the tracks and the continual spiralling upwards creates a really positive sound and when you add that to the musicianship and rhythm, it is fairly hard to resist. There are many things in life where contagious is not a positive adjective but in describing the music of Neu!, it is hard to argue with that sort of description.
We’re really looking forward to catching Michael Rother and his friends at Primavera!
If you are a fan of Neu!, you may be interested to know that their recent Record Store Day 12” single ‘Crazy’ is just one of the raffle prizes in the Cold Blooded Charity raffle. There are many great rock n roll prizes (including the Blur single ‘Fool’s Day’, which has been selling for £200 on eBay) but the Neu! track is a bit special.
The charity is in support of The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre and more details can be found here.

Excellent stuff.
Myself and another fan of your blog are off to Primavera and are looking forward to seeing Herr Rother. I got to see him play at the Harmonia gig at the ABC a couple of years ago, which was excellent. Stuart Braithwaite was next to me – “There’s your band in 30 years time”, says I.
“We look like that now”. The banter, etc…
Quite fancy that prize in the raffle myself…
Well Shug, get buying tickets then…at a pound a pop…..it’s probably about a fifth of what you will pay for a half pint of San Miguel at Primavera next weekend (if the ash cloud lets you go!)
And if you don’t win the Neu! single, you could always get an equestrian lesson or a poledancing kit.
