Japandroid boys are in Glasgow town

We’d ‘Post Nothing’ but that would make for a dull site

You’re never stuck for options in Glasgow on a Friday night but a fiver for Japandroid, hold us back!

The band were caught up in a blizzard of hype and bluster last year but there is enough about the Canadian duo to suggest that they will be around for a while. This was borne out by the fact that one of the best songs of the set was a new one.

Of course, when you use self-deprecating humour and send the crowd off to the toilet or the bar at that time, it is going to stifle your progress!

‘Heart Sweats’ is an obvious stand-out from the band, the instantly recognisable line of “You’re as cold as ice girl, I should know, I’ve been to the North Pole” elicits some thrashy singalongs from the audience.

“X O X O X” is the other immediate line from the song, and much like on the album, the song stood out from much of the other material.

As of yet, we don’t have any footage from the King Tuts show but here is a live version of ‘Heart Sweats’ to enjoy:

With such a quick ‘in and out’ album, the concerns about the show were how it would balance the energy with the desire to give the audience a value for money set. The duo just about got there in the end, even after a slightly fragmented start. It took the boys a couple of songs to get into their stride but once they got there, they kept it ticking nicely.

The between song banter was of the usual standard although the dedication to their tour manager / babysitter was a touching moment. Asking the King Tuts crowd for where was good to go on a Friday night may not have been so wise. It’ll be interesting to find out where they ended their evening.

We’d love to say go out and see them on tour but the Glasgow show was the second last gig of the European tour so you’ll likely have to wait around to do so. By the sound of the new material, the next time may be even better so keep an ear out.

EDIT: A friend of the Coldblooded team got some video footage from the King Tuts gig and he is happy to share it with all of us.

To see more from him, head to Youtube and MogwaiYT10
