Hot Club de Paris cover Queen and Fugazi at Glasgow Hinterland

Best set of the night by far

Of all the bands at Hinterland, Hot Club de Paris pleased us the most. With only a minimal amount of knowledge about the band and their music before the gig, we didn’t have many expectations but they easily grabbed the title of best performer of the night.

Musically, the threesome were very tight but their in-between song banter was worth paying attention to. This surprised us because they are a Scouse band.

You know what the Scousers are like, they all think they are the funniest people on earth but they usually turn out to be as funny as Stan Boardman or Jimmy Tarbuck.

Yes, that unfunny. However, the HCdP boys have a quick fire wit about them which made the set fly by.

We’ll cover their set in greater detail later but to get things underway, we’ll start with two cover versions they played during their set.

When it comes to selling records, wowing audiences and general awareness, there is a world of a difference between Queen and Fugazi.

We definitely prefer one of the acts over the other but it is probably best not to say, however we will give you a clue.

Queen are fucking shite.

Right then, for your viewing and listening pleasure, we’ve included the covers of Queen’s ‘I Want To Break Free’ and Fugazi’s ‘Waiting Room’.

The pre-song banter in the Queen video came about when a photographer felt he was being suitably inconspicuous by nipping in front of the band and taking a picture or two. His efforts at invisibility were noticed though and the trio wasted no time in getting ripped into him and his inability to blend in with the surroundings.

Fugazi are a band who are probably as well known for their ideals as their music but with tracks like ‘Waiting Room’, it is easy to see why they are renowned and exalted.

We’ll catch up with what we thought of the majority of the Hot Club de Paris set but for now, we hope you enjoy these covers.

Were you at Hinterland? Who did you see?
