Glasgow Film Festival has a musical side

Get your rocks off at the GFT

With Glasgow being such a music city, it is unsurprising to see (and hear) music interweave its way into a number of other events and occasions in the city. The Glasgow Film festival is currently taking place and there are plenty of opportunities for music fans to indulge their passions.

Monday the 22nd and Tuesday the 23rd sees the Glasgow Film Theatre play host to a White Stripes tour documentary. The brother and sister (ahem) duo has captivated British audiences since the turn of the Millennium and have long been loved in Glasgow.

Jack White is never slow to promote his Scottish heritage or Meg’s fondness for Scottish soccer players, the sort of on-stage chat that crowds want to hear. It is a two way thing though as Glaswegians can emphasise with the inner-city blues that permeates so much of the band’s music.

Regardless of the reasons, Glasgow and The White Stripes are made for each other and the two showings of ‘Under Great White Northern Lights’ are sure to be busy.

The final day of the Glasgow Film Festival is Sunday 28th of February and it is going out with a bang. Glasgow may have other things on its mind that day, the big two football teams clash yet again at lunchtime but Glasgow has adopted many favourite bands from just outside the city limits and one of the best are involved on Sunday evening.

Mogwai are having the British premier of their new film ‘Burning’ taking place in the GFT, a film which has met with rave reviews so far. Given the bands fan base in the city, it is no surprise to see that the film has already sold out.

The lucky ticket holders can then make their way to a Mogwai dj set, somewhere in the city, to prolong their evening and perhaps kill a few hours before going to Optimo. After all, work is never that important on a Monday.
