Frank Sidebottom wasnt bobbins
Sad news, RIP.
All the team at Cold Blooded Clarity are gutted to hear that Chris Sievey, the man who brought Frank Sidebottom to the world, passed away. Chris had been receiving treatment for a tumour in his chest and it is said that he collapsed at home today, later being pronounced dead in Wythenshawe Hospital.
Chris Sievey was 54 years old.
We’re not going to come out and say “enjoy the music, it’s what Frank / Chris would have wanted” because we know nothing about what he would have wanted. We’ll miss him but we’re certainly going to take it as another opportunity to enjoy the fantastic music and spectacles he created over the years.
The following performance took place on the 29th of May this year, less than a month ago. He still had the crowd in the palm of his hand and this medley will be familiar to long term Frank fans and it’s definitely got some of our best of Sidebottom moments.
This isn’t the tightest performance of ‘Hit The North’ but Frank’s recorded version of The Fall’s smash-hit single is probably the song we most associate with him. Oh yes, he loves the North!
Frank was also a massive football fan and he could always be found regaling the world with tales of football fun.
“At Saturday at five to three, there is only one place to be….”
There are loads of Frank Sidebottom stuff on Youtube and we’ll hopefully see one of the major channels being brave enough to show some of his best moments. He may only have been a cult entertainer but when you’re a cult entertainer in four different decades, you must be doing something right!
To Chris, thanks for all the fun and entertainment you gave us over the years….and we hope Frank gets plenty of shots on the Arcades.
Oh yes….we love the North…especially those fantastic arcades!
