Dan and Scroobius Pip give us an election viewpoint

Though Shalt always….VOTE!

A funny thing hit us today whilst watching the Liverpool v Chelsea game at Anfield. Liverpool were 2 goals down and yet, their fans didn’t seem too bothered. They weren’t.

This is because losing to Chelsea made it extremely unlikely that Manchester United would be able to win the league, ensuring they couldn’t overtake Liverpool’s title haul. So….there are sometimes when a football fan doesn’t get upset when their team loses.

Which got us thinking about an act that have plenty to say about the current state of Britain and we wondered how their thoughts would play out in the current election.

We are talking about Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip and more importantly, their ‘Thou Shalt Always Kill’ track, the version with Posdunous adding additional vocals.

The line that really sticks in our mind is:

“Thou shalt choose a political party based on their policies, as opposed to just going with who your family’s always supported; they are not a football team.”

You can see that many people will vote for a party because it is the one their family has always voted for and backed.

This is similar to how people will choose what football team to support.

So, is there a similarity in the two things?

Liverpool fans were happy at losing because the result helped to preserve a greater issue for the club. A lot of the identity and history of the club revolves around their trophy haul, so a short-term loss is better for a long-term gain

When it comes to politics and the 2010 UK General Election, a similar outlook could be handy. Rather than blindly voting for the one party that you have always backed, is it possible that tactical voting would serve your goals better?

For instance, consider the situation in Scotland where the Conservative Party are as welcome as Marti Pellow at a gig…well, he is just shit isn’t he?

Many in Scotland have voted Labour for traditional and historical reasons and will continue to do so for the rest of time.

However, with Labour looking unable to remain in control and talk of a hung parliament growing louder by the week, it may be that backing the Lib Dems could go some way to stopping the Tories gaining a majority.

Therefore, don’t just go with what you have always went with, have a think about what your greater needs from the election are and see if there is a better way for you to vote.

As for us, well, we’re not going to alienate anyone with our own voting choice but we will say, if any political party had the manifesto of Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip, they’d get our vote every time.

Listen!

What band would you vote for?
